This is a soft-side briefcase, with two main compartments - one with a zipper expansion around the bottom to convert it from just thick enough to roomily hold a laptop to a huge 5-1/2 inches wide at the bottom, the other more narrow for papers and files. There are three other pockets also: a 10" x 8" flat zippered slit-pocket on one side, and on the other, a semi-circular zippered pouch to hold calculators and pens, and a 10" x 5" zippered slit pocket for small items.
Between the two main compartments, there is a concealment compartment accessible from the side of the briefcase, with interior holster. The concealment compartment does not have a locking zipper pull.
The external briefcase dimensions are 16" x 11" x 5" (with the expansion zipped closed,) and 16" x 11" x 7-1/2" (with the expansion unzipped.) The Compaq laptop in the picture below is 14" x 10.5" x 1.5".
All Leather Construction
This is a soft leather briefcase, made of the same sort of leather used in the purses I sell, and from the same leatherwork company. It is fully lined with black nylon interior in all the compartments, and it is roomy enough to carry all sorts of work home from the office. It has both a dual-loop handle, and a nylon-backed shoulder strap with center pad. In the picture below you can see the huge amount of room that you gain when you unzip the expansion zipper. As you can see, this expansion area goes a bit more than 8" up each side of the briefcase. You can see the nylon lining in the 2nd picture below, which shows the pen/calculator storage pocket.
Sturdy
I like well-made leather goods. They look luxurious, they smell nice, they simply make you feel good when you touch them. But it's no good when they fall apart. This briefcase has cross-reinforced stitching, and steel D-rings, with aluminum zipper pulls, nylon zippers, and sturdy aluminum attachments at the end of the shoulder strap.
